About Me
Patricia Morreale, Ph.D., is a professor of computer science at Kean University, where she serves as the Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Technology. Before her academic career, she worked in the industry.
Morreale’s research focuses on machine learning and network systems, resulting in advances in error detection and secure processing, both of which have been patented and commercialized. She also studies human-centered computing, with an emphasis on universal software design, educational methods, and AI ethics. Additionally, Morreale is involved in faculty development and promoting undergraduate research engagement.
She has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for her “exceptional leadership and service in computing,” as well as for her significant research contributions to multimedia systems and networks. Morreale has led committees focused on faculty excellence in undergraduate research mentoring with the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT), the Computing Research Association (CRA), and the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). She is a former co-chair of NCWIT’s Academic Alliance and has served on the Executive Board of the Computing Alliance for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI).
Morreale received the NCWIT Joanne McGrath Cohoon Service Award for her contributions to undergraduate research engagement with students and faculty. Additionally, she has been honored with CUR’s Faculty Mentoring Award for Math and Computer Science, as well as Kean University’s Faculty Research Mentoring Award. She has authored three books and published numerous journal and conference papers. Furthermore, she is recognized as a Distinguished Contributor by the IEEE Computer Society and holds the status of Senior Member in the ACM.
Morreale earned her B.S. from Northwestern University, her M.S. from the University of Missouri, and her Ph.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology, all in Computer Science.
